Donal Smith - Chief Executive Officer*

Donal joined Data Explorers in March 2008 from Thomson Reuters where he was CEO of Thomson Financial's businesses in Europe and Asia.

Prior to this he was Managing Director of Thomson Financial's Banking and Brokerage division, having joined Thomson at the end of 2001.  In these roles he ran the group's international development strategy, acquiring more than 20 businesses throughout Europe and Asia.

Previously, Donal worked for the Financial Times Group, firstly as Managing Director of Business Information at FT Information and then as Director of Electronic Publishing for the FT Group and a member of the group's management board. During this period he was responsible for the launch of FT.com,  which quickly became the number one business website in Europe. 


Mark Faulkner – Head of Innovation*


Mark is the founder and Head of Innovation at of Data Explorers. He is also the founder and Director of Spitalfields Advisors.

A graduate of London School of Economics, Mark has spent his career specialising in International Securities Finance. From 1987 to 1995, he held management responsibility at L.M. (Moneybrokers) Ltd., Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers.

In 1995 he co-founded Securities Finance International. In 2004 he co-founded Spitalfields Advisors, an independent consultancy firm specialising in securities lending advice.

In 1998 he co-founded Securities Finance Systems (“SFS”). In 2004 SFS became Data Explorers, the leading provider of benchmarking information to the Securities Financing Industry and short-side intelligence to Investment Managers.

Mark has authored many books and papers on the subject of Securities Finance, including “An Introduction to Securities Lending” which was commissioned by The Bank of England’s Securities Lending and Repo Committee, The International Securities Lending Association, The London Stock Exchange, The Association of Corporate Treasurers and The London Investment Banking Association. He is a frequent speaker and moderator at international conferences. 


Jonathan Morris - Chief Operating Officer

Jonathan Morris joined Data Explorers from Thomson Reuters where he was Global Managing Director of Content Operations and SVP of International Technology. He managed product, content and technology teams across Asia, Europe and the US.

Prior to Thomson Reuters, Jonathan was CEO of Ideascape, a software company focused on third-generation mobile applications.

His previous roles have included developing B2B and B2C internet products at Pearson PLC for the Financial Times' electronic research and information businesses.


Maria Volpe - Director of Strategy and Corporate Development

Maria Volpe is Director of Business Development at Data Explorers and joins from Reuters where she was most recently Ratings Director. At Reuters Maria built Reuters' Machine Readable News business and helped build and launch Reuters Investment Banking and Corporates businesses in EMEA. Prior to that she worked at JP Morgan and Salomon Brothers in New York advising financial institutions in mergers, acquisitions and financial restructurings. Maria has an MBA from INSEAD.

 


Christopher Holmes - Sales Director

Christopher Holmes is Sales Director of Data Explorers and came from Thomson Reuters where he was Managing Director, Sales, for UK, Ireland and South Africa.

Prior to this he was co-founder and COO of Raw Communications which specialised in video streaming to the global equities market. Raw was the UK's fastest growing technology company in 2001 heading the Times TechTrack 100. Raw was sold to Thomson Financial in 2005. His previous roles included senior sales positions at the Financial Times.


Julian Pittam – Global Head of Specialist Sales

Julian joined Bankers Trust in 1992 to start the Fixed Income repo/lending book in Europe. He joined the repo desk in 1995 and set up the sales function for Bankers Trust International. Following two years in Hong Kong with Bankers Trust setting up the sales and marketing function of the Equity Finance desk, he then moved to Singapore with Bankers Trust for a further year.

Once back in Europe for Lehman Brothers from 1999, Julian built and managed the Institutional Sales and Marketing business. In his final year there he was responsible for the Sales and Marketing of the Prime Broker and Institutional product in the UK and Scandinavia.

Julian left Lehman Brothers in 2005 to join Data Explorers.


Ken Read - Head of Sales - Americas

Ken Read joined Data Explorers from Williams Lea, where he led the North American Investment Banking outsourcing practice. Prior to this, he was Global Managing Director for Investment Banking at Thomson Financial after holding executive sales, general management, and business development positions in New York, London and Hong Kong.

Ken began his career in financial services technology at Goldman Sachs' investment banking division in New York, in systems and information vendor management.


Tom Boucher – Chief Financial Officer

Tom Boucher is Chief Financial Officer and joined the company from BT Group. Whilst at BT, Tom had a variety of finance and business development roles at both BT Retail and Openreach, including FD of a BT backed start-up. Prior to BT, Tom was Group FC for a private equity backed internet services business, Amaze. Tom started his career as an accountant with Ernst & Young in London.

Lee Olesky - Chairman

In 2008, Lee was named one of the 'Top 20 international leaders and innovators in Online Finance' by Institutional Investor magazine.  In the past decade, Lee has transformed two fixed-income electronic brokers from start-ups into successful global businesses, most recently as co-founder and CEO of Tradeweb, a leading over-the-counter, multi-asset class online marketplace and pioneer in the development of electronic trading.  Prior to Tradeweb, Lee was the founder and CEO of BrokerTec, an electronic inter-dealer broker (sold to ICAP in 2003).  Lee has also worked in a number of management positions at Credit Suisse First Boston.

Bill Cuthbert

After spending time in Research at James Capel & Co, Bill moved to Deutsche Bank. Initially managing the London Debt Trading unit and Treasury business, he became co-Head of Global Treasury and was responsible for establishing Deutsche/DMG's Global Treasury network in the form in which it exists today.
 
At Rabobank, he re-organised the Treasury area before taking responsibility for the bank's complete Investment Banking activities as a Member of the Managing Board. In the recent past he has acted as Advisor to the Rabobank Executive Board. 


Charles Ind

Charles is the founding partner of Bowmark Capital LLP, a private equity investment firm with in excess of $1.2bn under management and advice.  Charles has over twenty years' experience of investment, corporate finance and business analysis at Bowmark, Morgan Stanley & Co and The Boston Consulting Group.
 


Duncan Calam

Duncan is a partner at Bowmark Capital LLP, a private equity investment firm with in excess of $1.2bn under management and advice.  Duncan has 17 years private equity and investment banking experience at Bowmark, Bridgepoint Capital, CSFB and Schroders.
