In light of the Russian export ban on grain exports which is due to last until December, are investors already positioned for such an event or could they be caught out and where? We have looked at a basket of global food and grain related companies, some of which have multiple revenue streams, for the weekly change in stock on loan and institutional ownership to see certain companies that could benefit from this grain inflation. This includes firms that have higher than average short interest such as Australia focused GNC and VT. The UK’s biggest bakers – PFD/NFDS – have seen a recent uptick in short selling while, on the other hand, the US equivalents are predicted to ride out this storm and do well.
