What is the STOXX Europe 600 Optimised Supersector?

STOXX Europe 600 Optimised Supersector indices are derived from STOXX Europe 600 Index, comprised of the 600 largest European stocks by free float market capitalisation. The indices cover 16 European countries. Some key factors that have been addressed in its construction include concentration, diversification, liquidity and availability to borrow.

What is the Methodology?

Stocks from Iceland and Greece are removed, with the remaining stocks then ranked by average daily turnover (ADTV) and Data Explorers availability to borrow. Up to 60 stocks with the lowest liquidity are then removed from the index and divided into 19 Supersectors based in industry classification benchmark (ICB). Each stock is then optimised using a single stock weighting. Finally the largest stocks in search Supersector are capped between 10% and 20% depending upon the number of stocks in that sector.
